Have you ever had a son or daughter recently or about to turn fifteen? The thoughts and emotions tumbling around inside your noggin' about what you did when you got your drivers license. Friends you know from high school who did ridiculous things in a car, some of them whom never lived to tell the tale. Well this is my advice to all those parents and all those kids who are set to embark upon that journey. It's not a nightmarish tale, but one that brings about hope, safety, inspires much thought and dialogue, and above all educates. Excerpt from the yet unfinished book by Rockin Scotty "So You Want the Keys to the Car". I. Calling All ParentsGet Involved!!! By the time you finish reading this page twenty seven people have died on American Highways. Fifteen of them are under 21. That number is staggering numbers to say the least. Do something about! Parents need to get involved, educate yourself and your children and become a better driver, teach them the same and become safer drivers together, thinking drivers, not statistics!!Your kid turns fifteen and the fear starts slowly. Like a pot of boiling water it looks innocent enough just sitting there in the pan, calm doing nothing yet present. Then you start to see the bubbles around the edges, it’s gaining energy and it will soon come to a full boil. Your little baby is growing up and within a year they will start asking, “When can I get my learners permit, when can I start taking drivers ed, when can I get , oooh no you think…my license?” “Can I drive home from the store, come on Dad, it’s just down the street for crying out loud? Can I ride to school with Joey, he just got his license? Don’t worry, Cindy is bringing me home so you have to pick me up, see I’m doing YOU a favor!” This fear starts to cover you like a Grandma’s handsewn quilt but the feeling you get is not warm and snugly. You question yourself and your parenting skills. How much of the leash do I let out, am I doing the right thing? Sure you’ve analyzed your own parenting job all along, but now the impact of your decisions seem MUCH MUCH more monumental and believe me, they are. Every year thousands die in auto accidents and many are young unskilled and inexperienced. It is my hope to lower that risk for you and your child. I can’t tell you how to handle those intricate decisions you have to make, but I can help you prepare your child for the world on the road they will encounter. It all starts with you going through this very special stage together. You’re the teacher and yet you don’t know a darn thing about cars much less teaching someone to drive. Well this is what this book is for, I know a lot about both.
